Interview with the Running Dutchman

February 28th, 2024

The running dutchman x Daan Coenen

The Running Dutchman interviewed me, here’s my take on the article!

How i met John

One of the fun things about this sport is the surrounding community. When helping at a local race with putting out the route and collecting it, I met John. We talked for a bit, about the sport and personal achievements. I met his wife and later found out they run an online yoga business in Italy.

When I got back home, I received a message from John if I wanted to do an interview for his website, The Running Dutchman. Obviously, my answer was yes!

The interview

John has this beautiful farm-house where he has his home office. Together with his wife, they run the yoga business and his own new project. We chatted for a long time about running and future goals. Along the way we got to know each other more and more and I must say it was a very fun afternoon.

The interview goes into me, only running for a little over a year now. One of my goals is to run very far distances, such as the legends trail. I want to go a little more in detail here and on why I run.

I run for fun, being outside in nature testing my limits is the thing I value the most. I only found out about this sport and feeling about a year ago and got hooked. Obviously I’ve got good genetics for this sport, I am able without much experience to beat runners that run for their entire lives. Obviously I want to get better over time, that is why I get my programs from a professional. High volume is my priority over speed, so I do not train getting on the podium. Even though this might happen in the moment of a race.

I believe that I can get better by sticking to training hard and investing in proper recovery and nutrition overtime, even though this might not be the best option if I want to run for the podium. And I am happy with that.

Having said that, I want to thank John for the interview and the new friendship through this amazing sport!
